Intro into Chapter One
Maddie scooped up her toys and dropped them in the toy box just like Mommy wanted. If she hurried fast enough, she could get all the star-shaped peanut butter sandwiches before William. The robot ones were for boys anyway.
She skipped out of her room enjoying the swishing sound of her new princess dress. It was just perfect. Pink and fluffy with a pink hat to go with it. She spun once to see how far it twirled, and almost fell down the steps. Oops.
“Mommy, I’m here. We can have all the sandwiches now.” She sat down and took a few of the stars.
“Wait for your brother, sweetie.” Mommy ruffled her hair. “I told you that dress is for the party tomorrow night.”
Maddie frowned at the peanut butter on her fingers. “You did, but I had to try it on to make sure it twirled enough. And guess what. It does.”
Mommy laughed. “I’m sure it twirls wonderfully. Now please go wash your hands and change before you get food on it.”
“Okay, Mommy.” Maddie stared at the sandwiches, wishing she could just hurry and eat first. But Mommy had her glare on and Maddie knew she meant business.
She skipped away and passed her twin brother, William, in the hallway. “I saved you some stars. But that means I get a robot.”
William sighed. “Yes, I know. Thank you.”
Maddie beamed and turned the corner to go upstairs. Except that something outside caught her eye. It was Muffins! And Eoin! Her two bestest friends. Muffins was a unicorn Maddie had wished for, and Eoin was her leprechaun friend. And if they were here, that meant it was time for an adventure.
She whooped for joy, pulled her wand out of the belt of her dress and ran for the door. Eoin climbed off Muffins’ back.
“Maddie, it’s urgent. The Fairy Queen lost her dragon and needs our help.” Eoin pointed to Maddie’s wand. “I see you’re prepared. Should we go?”
Maddie grinned. “I love dragons! Do you think we can ride one? My sister had one, but she never let me ride it.”
Eoin grumbled. “I don’t think that’s a good idea. But we still need to go find him.”
“Okay!” Maddie waved her wand in the air and shot sparks at Muffins. The tiny unicorn that Eoin could ride wasn’t big enough for her to fit on too, so she had to make him bigger.
Eoin sighed. “I really need to stay on the unicorn when you do that next time so I don’t have to climb up.”
Maddie twirled her wand again and pointed at the flowers below Muffin to make a stool. It wasn’t very big, but at least Eoin could climb on now.
Maddie slid the wand back in her belt feeling just a teensy bit guilty that she was still wearing the dress. But what better way to help a fairy queen than to be dressed like a princess? She would be super duper careful so it wouldn’t get dirty. She climbed up behind Eoin.
“Off to the fairy world!” Maddie raised her hand up in the air in a battle cry like she’d seen William
do. Time to save the dragon
